My Birthday... er a day early

So, tomorrow,  I will turn 19! Nothing special about that. Well, in Utah, you can finally buy cigarettes... if I wanted to smoke. Ewwww.... GROSS!   But, a birthday is always fun. My daddy gave me a tablet and a blender and my mama gave me some candy and nutella. My ex-roommate came over to "party-hard" with me. Yeah, we are awesome. We decided to make chicken cordon blue wrapped in bacon! Everything is better with bacon.

Yummy birthday cake!  Recipe Here: http://www.jocooks.com/bakery/cakes/magic-cake/

YEAH, I'M 19!!

New DIY Sunglasses and a leopard print infinity scarf from my little bro!

FABULOUS!

Check out that cute girl!

Now for pumpkin carving:

DIY 3 - Toned Sunglasses

So, I love sunglasses but, I loose them ALL THE TIME! No joke. But, for some reason, I don't seem to loose this crappy pair. I got them for free last year at an orientation. They have a cute shape but not such cute colors. So, here we go...
Tape to make a straight line across

First coat of nail polish! Pretty Yellow for the front.
 Teal on one side done.
A few coats later....

Then a coat of sparkles

My cute attempt to be artsy picture.

My lovely ex-roommate is modeling for me! She came over to help me celebrate my birthday! Ain't R beautiful!

Soups Up Sunday: Delicious Stuffing Stir Fry

So, today for dinner I didn't play so, I just kind of used leftovers from my fridge to come up with this delicious recipe.

Ingredients:
Stove Top Stuffing Box (Chicken) - and needed ingredients
One can of chicken
small apple
handful of nuts
1 tbsp oil

So, yesterday from lunch I made the stove top stuffing with a can of chicken mixed in for some extra protein. So, today I used about a cup of that stuff and put it in a frying pan with the tbsp of oil. Then I chopped up the apple into little cubes and threw them in and put a handful of nuts (almonds and peanuts in my case) and I fried it for about 4 to 5 min.

It was amazing.
Thank me later,
xoxo

Shindig Saturday: HAPPY MAY THE FOURTH BE WITH YOU!

So, I'm a little bit of a nerd and I LOVE holidays. So, y'all must understand that May the Fourth is a wonderful day! AKA Star Wars Day. Any type of Holiday is the perfect day to have a shindig. You don't even have to think of a theme!  So I didn't host but, me and my roomies R and C went to  some of C's friends house to watch the first original Star Wars movie. It was marvelous as always. If you haven't seen it, you are missing out on some serious pop culture.
We made Star Wars sugar cookies from some molds C has. Always bring something if you are invited somewhere. It is only polite and it doesn't have to cost a lot of money. Bringing a bottle of wine is stereotypical but there is no need to go that far (unless it is for like a super formal dinner). Otherwise something like cookies or flowers or anything little is fine.
If you're the one entertaining for a movie night, you can go with two themes to entertain. One, Movie theatre, which includes making popcorn and having a bowl or two of skittles or M&Ms. Two, the theme of the movie. Which changes depending on the movie. Star Wars is great for star wars shaped cookies or sour straws made to look like lightsabers or you can always make a cake shaped like the deathstar (a circle cake with a circle indent cut out and some frosting in a line down the middle). Cheap and easy and fun for everyone.

May the force be with you,
xoxo,

Whatever Wednesday: Dumpster Diving

http://hootpinter.wordpress.com/2011/08/

Alright, I know, initial response - GROSS! But, it is good. I got my blender dumpster diving, saving me like $20  to $40.  I've also got a lot of my dishes from dumpster diving and some of the clothes/things that I use in my DIY projects. There are a few rules/suggestions/tips I abide by.

1) Only take things used in the kitchen that are thrown away together. None of the dishes I've taken have been covered in food - they are all clean. I got my dishes from a garbage bag filled with dishes. It was closed off from the rest of the garbage by the garbage bag and only thrown away with similar things so, I felt safe taking it.

2) Same goes for clothes.

3) Wear clothes that don't matter (obvious right?)

4) Wear tennis shoes or boots. You probably won't go looking to step in something disgusting but, you might by accident. You don't want that. I went dumpster diving in flip flops once - poor choice. (<-- that was an understatement fyi)

5) Go with a friend. They can help you decided between trash or treasure, as well as make you feel less stupid about going diving.

6) Choose when to go diving. The best time in my town - after winter term of college ends. For my school, that is in April. 3/4ths of the school is going home for the summer and they have accrued stuff that they don't need or don't have room to take home or store, thus, tons of useful stuff is thrown out! It is a complete waste. I saw a full sized Christmas tree once. My friend got Christmas lights. We found matching vintage frootloops mugs. Seriously, college kids get some of the weirdest/coolest stuff and then realize it isn't as useful as other things they need more. But, some of them are just brats and throw out useful things too. (...like a working blender...). That's the when (basically when anyone, not just college students, are moving out is a good time to dive into their dumpster).

7) Wash everything afterward no matter if it looks clean. Yeah, it was still in the trash my friend no matter how fab it is.

8) Take a shower. 'nuff said.

What's your opinion on dumpster diving? Love it? Hate it? My big brother told me off for doing it but my big sister texted me "what did you find!? :)"

Happy Diving,

Tinker Tuesday: Long Sleeve Shirt to Cute Crop Top (no-sew)

So, sorry for the late post, school started today and I was up late last night doing homework. (yes, homework before I've even been to the class. I actually enjoy it because it gets me jump started into the course). So, without further delay:

I started with this long sleeved pink crew-neck shirt. My roommate gave it to me to do-over because it is much to short for her torso.  I then perused my pinterest boards for ideas and came across: http://www.popchampagneblog.com/2012/05/diy-fringe-net-tank.html
I go into more detail then she does and I have a bit of a different outcome as she starts with a tank dress and I start with a too short shirt. But, nonetheless, excellent idea miss popchampagne. I loved how your tank turned out.

Since my shirt was crew neck, and I HATE crew neck (I feel like it is choking me), plus a crew neck just wouldn't look right with this style, I took off the collar and stretched it a little.

Then I put on the shirt and measured where I wanted  it to hit me. For me, this was right at my natural waistline and that was about six inches from the bottom of the hem. I measured up each seem and cut there.

Next, I guestimated on the rest of the cuts. If you want you can measure them each out but, I am much to lazy for that

I pulled on each individual cut to stretch out the fabric.

Then I tied two adjacent strands next to each other in a double knot.

Repeat - so it looks a little cooler.

Finished!

Shameless Selfie! (oh, I cut off the sleeves too since they were too tight on me... plus this is a little more of a summery shirt anyway)

Did you do the project?
I'd love to see some pictures!
xoxo,
Kels
