Soups Up Sunday: Cheap easy daily

So, normally me and my friends make a nice dinner on Sundays and I could share that with you but, I went to my Granddads today because I got back from Moscow/Honolulu this past week and haven't seen him for a few months. But since I had no food when I came back and I also had hardly any money this gives me a chance to recommend what to eat on a regular basis for really cheap.

First of all: PEANUT BUTTER!  Peanut butter is really filling and also not that bad for you. It is great on some toast - I personally like mine on rye bread which is like 20 cents more expensive but also tastes loads better and tends to have more vitamins that you need.

So, this is how my diet went for the past week (I've been living out of a suitcase, sleeping on a lovesack, at my friends apt).

Breakfast: Oatmeal with cinnamon
Snack: Banana
Lunch: Peanut Butter on Rye
Snack: Banana
Dinner: Soup

I like to eat bananas because I have this awful fear of getting a potassium deficiency. My older brother got one while I was a freshman in high school and its awful and now I'm terrified of getting one. Plus bananas are pretty cheap and delicious. Soup is also great because you can get it for a dollar or two and then you just heat it up (or add water and heat it up, depends on the soup).

Now, I moved into my new apartment Friday night and then I spent the day with C and her family working in the garden and I finally got to go grocery shopping last night. But, while I have more space for food I'm still lacking in the money department.

Here is what I got as essentials:
Eggs
Bell Peppers
More Bananas
More Oatmeal
More Rye Bread
More Soup
Cinnamon  (for my oatmeal!)
Oregano
Garlic Salt
Onion Bits
Paprika (they were having a 5 spices for $5 deal, and I had no spices!)
Vanilla Extract
Chocolate Milk Mix (ok, this was a splurge but its how I get my good amount of calcium)

Then since a bunch of my roommates are going home for the summer, they left me some food:
3/4 jug of milk
12 cans of canned chicken breasts
Peanuts
Truvia (actually I had bought this before I left for Moscow and no one ate it)
Jello Pudding (x3)

So, I think I'll do pretty good this week. I can't post until I go back to campus because my camera requires wifi to post pics and I haven't set up a router in my house yet. I'm just using an Ethernet cable.

But, trust me, y'all can't wait until Whatever Wednesday to see all the stuff I got tonight because my granddad was cleaning out his house and so are all the college kids that are going home. So, I got some really great vintage stuff for free and also some cool and WTF and useful stuff that needs to be super cleaned.

Hope you have a great day tomorrow,
Wish me luck on my two job interviews (I need a job!),

Shindig Saturday: Movie Review: The Raven

The Raven (2012) Poster

When a madman begins committing horrific murders inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's works, a young Baltimore detective (Fields) joins forces with Poe to stop him from making his stories a reality.

Director:

First of all, Luke Evans (who plays Detective Fields) looks uncannily like Joseph Gordon-Levitt my celeb-crush of the moment so, I was pretty stoked on that account. Otherwise, if you are simply looking to watch an action movie for eye-candy (a girls night like me and my friend L were doing) this is not for you. But me and L both ended up loving the movie.

I would put this movie under the category of suspenseful horror. It's not like the "jump out and scare you kind of horror movie" (I hate those); it is more of a "I am sitting on the edge of my seat the entire time with my nerves at their wits end" kind of movie.

It is rated R for a reason - it is super gory. Have you ever read any Edgar Allen Poe stories? Well, if you have you understand how easily this can become gory. If you haven't, lets just say you get to slowly watch a man get cut in half by a pendulum with an ax attached swinging back and for across his stomach... and you watch it all. There are other gory parts too. This movie is not for the faint of heart. There is no sex though or nakedness if that is what you don't like to see in movies you're good on that side.

The end has an amazing twist and you'll never know who the killer is until the very end. I was in shock and awe at the reveal and I'm usually pretty good at guessing the way a movie is going to go.

John Cusack is amazing as Poe. He balances being a ridiculously egomaniac with being a loving fiance very well and portrays everything in between with zest. Luke Evans does well but in my opinion not as well. As Detective fields he sometimes seems to have two different personalities - calm and calculating and a freakishly intense side. I don't think Evans does a very good job of bringing each side of Fields into a cohesive character like Cusack does.

Recommendation: Heck, yes. Unless you have a faint heart, then not so much.

The Raven is on instant play for netflix.

Enjoy the movie,

Thrifty Thursday: Online Shopping: Sammydress.com

Well, if you read my about page, you know how annoyed I am by frugal articles showing cheap places to shop that aren't really all that cheap. Sure you can find anything you really want for an inexpensive price if you know how to look but, sometimes I like to just shop easily. So, I'll let you in on my favorite online inexpensive place to shop:
!!!! sammydress.com !!!!

Its very low priced and decent quality. I've pulled some of my favorites from the store that AREN'T even on sale! And FYI, I wasn't endorsed to do this.

You have to go up a size or two usually because sizes run a lot smaller than here in America.

Whatever Wednesday: Planted Peas and Buying Seeds

I started my very first garden this week with my friend C. We planted peas and I bought zucchini and bell pepper seeds to plant. A little suggestion for those pale-skinned girls out there gardening: WEAR SUNSCREEN. Yup, I got burnt. We were probably out there for about two hours weeding, planting, and playing on the swings with C's little boys.

Tinker Tuesday: Belt Refashion

Long Necklace/Choker/Headband

Started with some ribbon and a belt with a cool belt buckle.

Separate the buckle from the belt .

I just chopped it.

Fold the ribbon in half.

Fold in any extras.

Tie a knot...

...and another knot to finish it!

Okay, so, not the best DIY but, its what I could do while living out of a carry-on suitcase... But, next week I'll have my sewing machine and all my craft supplies next week.
